U.F.O. Sightings

Last Thursday, Orange-X came home from work with a parcel under his arm.

"What's that?", I asked.

"You'll see. Just give me a second.", he replied.

He dropped his laptop bag in the home office, took off his coat and proceeded to unpack the mystery box. The object revealed itself.

Me: A mini remote-controlled helicopter??

O-X: Yes! Isn’t it cute? I ordered it back in November last year.

Me: (rolling eyes) Oh. Yeah, sure…. But what are you going to do with it?

O-X: (wide grin) Put in batteries, charge the chopper and let it fly, of course.

Me: Let it fly where?

O-X: Well, in the house. It’s for indoor use only, you know.

Me: Oh… Uhm. Great. I’m not sure that Dale will be fascinated by a mini ‘copter buzzing around his ears, though.

We didn’t have any batteries left, so I was kindly requested to get a few for the remote on my next trip to the grocery store. So yesterday evening, OrangeX finally decided to try out his new toy.

The first attempts were not very successful. The mini-helicopter just spun around on its own axel without leaving the floor. After a while, Orange managed to keep it steady enough to take off. It did, however, bounce numerous times against the walls and/or the ceiling. The buzzing sound and blinking blue light almost drove me nuts. Not to mention poor Dale who was hiding behind the sofa, terrified and hissing. I finally decided to relieve him of his misery and let him out on the terrace in the rain (Dale, not O-X) from where he could still follow the action in all security behind the patio door.

A terrified kitty

Nevertheless, I felt it was my duty to play along and at least take a few pictures. Sorry for the bad quality, but it’s quite a task to catch a U.F.O. (Uncontrolled Flying Object) twirling about the apartment without any known target (except maybe the photographer).

We have a liftoff!

O-ooh! Ready to crash-land on the sofa?

*sigh* This little-big boy will just never grow up! I guess that’s why I love him so much.

Sorry for bothering you Capt'n Dale, but it sure is fun to fly the 'copter through the house! :)

LOL - I know exactly what you have to deal with. P is the same way with toys!

ET: Yup. They'd get along very well our two grown-up kids ;)

If that flying thing didn't scare me to the point of loosing my whiskers, I'd smack it right down. Uhm... provided it's flying low enough. Can't you get a play mouse, ot something? Sheesh!

I've always panicked when someone had a pet bird loose in the house-- I imagine this new toy would give me the same feeling!

I'm very sorry, but remote-controlled helicopters are illegal in Canada. You'll have to leave it here in Basel with me.
I'll be right over...

T1-don't worry. Birds can fly a lot longer than this toy. After 6 min. it needs a fresh charge. I guess you'll survive? ;-)

TBF - after reading your comment I immediately checked the immigration pages. Apparantly it is of big advantage to bring your own means of transportation. Sorry, you can come over to play together, but the 'copter stays!

where did he get it?!?!? I want one too!!!!

What a neat-o toy! Better not show either No1Son or No2Son, they'll immediately want one. The Space Cadet wouldn't be interested.... he's more into Space Travel.

No way - Matthew has had his eye on one of these for a long time. I'll have to block this page somehow - our apartment is way too small for a UFO!

Very endearing. I have one of those types myself. LOL One Christmas my MIL bought all her sons and SILs little plastic ball shooting guns. It was very annoying all the shooting that was going on. What's worse is that she continues to do it every year.

Don't let GLH see it! He already has enough toys!

Ho hum, those boys and their remote controlled toys, eh? And they expect us to get all excited about them. I'm not sure if we have a helicopter, but we have at least 7 trucks, several cars and a skateboarder and they all make LOTS of noise.
:-)

Jose: First, welcome to our blog. :) Second, I don't have a clue except that he ordered it through a work colleage.

Ex-Shammi: Oh great! Next thing you know, we'll have an additional remote controlled rocket flying through the house ;)

Sarah/GL: It'll be our little secret, ok?

Fab: Of course it's glamourous! Do YOU have your own chopper?

Shelli: Oh my! OX will certainly want some of those, too, and start a new tradition at Chrismas. LOL. With a bit of luck, he'll have forgotten about it by then.

Christina: They have the toys and we get the headaches, right? ;)

I am still laughing out loud on this one, CS (and O-X). Boys will be boys. Period. And, sad to say, some of us girls will be boys as well, because I would have fun with this. It's the finesse of it, you know!

We call Nicholas the BLB (Big Little Boy). One day I guess he'll be the LBB, just like O-X. Something to look forward to?! :)

That's very cool......my question though: Is it broken yet?

Typically whenever I get toys like that they work for a few hours and then break - but they've lasted long enough to feel as though I got some enjoyment out of it.

Ginnie: You're right. It is fun, but much more so when I have the controls in my hands! LOL

PS: Tell you what... Definitely to look forward to ;)

Michael: Good to see you again! And nope, it's still working. Only thing is, you plug it in for 20 minutes for it to fly 5-6 minutes. At least it gives me (and Dale) a break from the buzzing sound between flights.
