The big news

Now to the big news...

I have given my resignation at work last Wednesday. Yes! By the time I leave, I will have been working there for over 8 years! It was a very tough choice, but my health is worth more to me. I have a 3 month resignation period which means that – counting the holidays I have left – I’ll have my last day there on December 5th, 2006.

I know this decision may sounds stupid/weird considering that we are moving to Canada next summer, but if I have to force myself to work every morning for the next 6-7 months, it would have been hell. I sincerely hope that this is not a burn out, but honestly, I think that I have involved myself too emotionally and intensely in this company. Then again, that’s me. I am very emotional and I can only work for a company and products in which I believe. Somehow, the combination of certain people and circumstances in the past few years slowly put an end to it. I don’t want to blame it all there, but it certainly had a strong influence on my decision.

I don’t know what the future holds, but I can freelance and can take on temporary jobs until we leave. I don’t want to build up such a grudge against the company and the people that I end up hating it/them when I leave. I had to do it for me. It will certainly be rough financially the coming months, but I feel confident that all will turn out fine. Still, it was a big part of my life and I am sad to have to take this step.

...Hmmm.... I wonder how I will feel once I have really left… I’ll let you know.

A brave decision, but health and well being are more important :)

A 3-month resignation makes our 2 weeks here in America seem like nothing. I don't know how you can hang on that long in a bad environment! But my thoughts and prayers will be with you for strength and endurance, knowing you've made the right choice. I can just imagine what your renewed energy and outlook on life will prepare you for next! You go, Girl!

You made the right choice. Having made that same decision just this past week, I know how hard it can be. I was there for 14 years and it is a difficult thing to do. Things will be fine. I finally realized it is not life or death, it is a job and your life and happiness are worth more than any price.

I start my new job in a week and I will let you know how it feels to be somewhere different!

Haddock: Thanks. I think so, too.

Mr. Fab: What?? No mention of glamour?? ;-)

Ginnie: The direct environment is not bad (thank goodness!)and you know how quickly time goes by. All of a sudden, it will be Dec. 5 ;-)

TMS: Yes, I read your entry, but didn't comment because of the situation I was in. I'm sure we both took the right decision.

hi cs, like i wrote in a mail to you, you did the right thing! and you will see, HOW good it feels like without the company. and like you know, i did the same step a few weeks ago and it feels like being "free". i promise you, that you won´t miss anything from the office. and the few people you really like, they´ll stay in contact with you anyway. so, hope 2 c u soon in the "backstage" ... and when you don´t know what to to with your time, or you have to earn a little money: we are always looking for a waitress, ha, ha!!! big hug & aaaaaall the best from austria, pinki!

CS - You should feel proud of yourself. Firstly, you have never portayed a negative feeling about the company - just that you were busy and working a lot...but I never felt any negative vibes. You've been very professional. So, I'm surprised to hear you've resigned, but very glad that you feel relieved and I'm sure all will work out fine. I also totally agree with Pinki that those people who you care about and care about you will always stay in touch.
Work to live...don't live to work. I have learned that over the past few years and I think even TBF would say I've begun managing myself and my well-being around work/life much better than I used to.

CanadianSwiss said...

Pinki, you are the best proof of caring colleagues staying in touch :-) But Me?? Waitress?? Haha! Very funny indeed! Poor you... I'd ruin your business with my clumsiness. I have two left hands when it comes to that ;-) Hugs to you and Andrea

Mrs. TBF: Thank you. Your words mean a lot to me :-) And I guess "managing myself and my well-being around work/life" is something I still have to work on.

Michael Lehet said...

Wow, that is big news! But I totally agree with you, without your health where would you be?

I think mrs TBF said it perfectly! You have done the right decision. I made that decision 5 long years ago in fact. I'm sure there will be so much more to come... Everything happens for a reason and I'm sure more things will come to you! :)

CanadianSwiss said...

Michael: Right! No healthy me... no me. ;-)

ET: You're absolutely right. It happens (or you take a decision) for a reason and it will all be good in the end :-)

CanadianSwiss said...

Hey King! Thanks for the invite, my feline buddy!! I hear you're feeding on Iams now a days. Can you get an extra can for me? Purrrr! Gimme four (claws), my friend! Yeah!

PS: You should get a REAL place on that TBF blog. I'm sure he'll agree.

Dale, King is not sophisticated enough to have his own blog. I on the other hand am a model of success and smooth moves.

3 months! wow, that is a long time to get out of a work place. That's got to be tough.

I'm glad to hear that you are leaving that place if it is causing you strain on your health. Sometiems, no matter how much you love something it's just not worth it.

Even more so when you don't love it.

Take care of yourself... the rest will fall into place. :)

I learned a long time ago that no amount of money/salary is worth putting your physical and or mental health at risk...been there, done that. As everyone else has been saying here, you did the right for yourself and for your family. Good for you for having the guts to make that difficult decision and best of luck to you.

But stay away that bald guy, aka TBF. He may force you into hard labor, tilling and tending to his illicit rooftop farm that he passes off as a tranquil garden. Beware!

LOL - what comic relief here... hahahaha...love it.

Hey can I join ya for a few months!! lol

I applaud you C.S. for taking such a risky move! We all have to make those tough decisions about what we are willing to live with, and what we have to cut loose in order to survive and be happy in the long run!

Bravo! I know you are resourceful, and you will be just fine! I wish you much sucess in your pending career change!

How exciting!

Good luck babe.

Sorry I have left a note sooner, I've been out of the loop lately! :)

CanadianSwiss said...

P.U.- I'll have to check you out then, right?

CanadianSwiss said...

Thank you, Xmichra. I think I'll manage just fine, though. Furthermore, it will give me the chance to finish a project that I'm working on. No better way to go than having completed something.

CB: Thanks for the thoughts. As for the warning, I'm pretty sure that if I bring enough beer, he'll forget about the hard labour bit ;-)

Rob: Great to see you around again. I've been out of the loop, too. :-) You're as sweet as ever. Thanks for the good thoughts.

I wanna thank you all for the tremendous support to CS. It´s been a hard and difficult decision to take and I know how it has affected here over the past time. I can only say: "Way to go baby!!" You took the right decision and made a choice for yourself. I´m there for you all the way....XXX

CanadianSwiss said...

Again a big thank you to you all for the support, but most of all to my sweetheart, OrangeX aka my Angel. I love you babe!

I think that's an ace move. The future is pretty damn exciting. Nice one!

christina said...

Wow, that really is a big step but it seems you made the right decision and this will be so much better for your peace of mind. AND just think of all the extra time you'll have to prepare for your move. :-)

I always applaud people who quit their jobs and go on to something better. It's a way of de-cluttering your life. Congratulations!

CanadianSwiss said...

Kieran: Thanks. Exciting indeed ;)

Christina: Extra time and less income, but money isn't everything. Flexibility and my well-being are worth much more.

Rhea: Thank you for visiting and for your kind comment :-)

CanadianSwiss said...

Sal: Hey, do I look like Suzanne Somers? ;-) Seriously though, if you hurry, I might just be able get you a a really cool wheelchair from our showroom. Or how about an anti-decubitus seat cushion?

MP: Merci. Je me sens déjà un peu soulagée, mais je dois apprendre à mieux gérér le balance entre le travail et mes besoins personnels. Par contre, je suis toujours retombée sur mes pieds alors ça va certainement bien aller. :-)

Michelle said...

Good luck on your next steps. These tough times often lead to the next place we are meant to be. It will all be clear a year from now. ;-)

Seriously though, that was a bold move and the most important thing is to look forward and don't second guess yourself no matter how temptint it may be.

Sometimes just knowing that you're going to be leaving soon makes a job that you're unhappy in unbearable. I know that feeling. So I think you've done the right thing in giving up work early. Good for you!

CanadianSwiss said...

Michelle - Thanks and welcome to my blog. You're absolutely right. Things happen for a reason, don't they? ;-)

MS. Mac- Today, I know that I've taken the right decision. Thanks for your kind words. BTW, I hope you're recovering from the jetlag :-)
