Catching up - In a Nutshell

I don't really remember the last time I put up a post, and can't really say why I haven't. I mean, it's not that nothing happened since July 2009.

Looking back, I must admit that the whole year was very hectic and when we did have a break/a weekend with no plans, we used the time for us. Sounds a bit selfish, but we needed it. I have however been following your blogs, eventhough the comments were sometimes sparse.

So let me pick up where we left off. We left for Canada two days after Pa's incineration, which means that the service was held on the Friday, we drove back to Basel on the Saturday and flew from Zürich on the Sunday.

We had a fantastic time there with family and friends. A few highlights in Canada there were:
  • a lovely evening with Christine (my ex-sister in law), Bernard and my adorable niece, Camille,
  • an unforgetable evening at Roxane and François',
  • some golf for Orange-X,
  • our family (mother's side) Summer Christmas Party held at Rachel's,
  • a day in Ottawa and meeting up with blogger Jay from "Kill the Goat"
  • Orange-X's short tour of the ER of our local hospital,
  • dinner with Christiane, Robert, Sonya and Christian
  • a day at lake Craig with a bunch of close friends
I'll have to do individual posts about all of the above - if I ever get to it, that is, but I'm hoping that O-X will help a bit.

Anyhow... Canada was not the only activity we had this year! We drove to Amsterdam a few times and took Ma back with us to Basel twice, we both quit smoking (yes, you read that right!), bought new bikes, we organized a grill party to thank O-X's work colleagues for good results is the first half year, Orange-X spent a weekend in hospital in following an allergy to antibiotics (this one really worth a post of its own as it all started in Canada!), had O'x's daugthter and her Mom over for a weekend in Basel, bought an elliptical trainer and spent last weekend with Pinki and Andrea in Bad Fischau/Wiener-Neustadt, Austria. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things, too.

This week, I've been stuck at home with the flu and I'm finally starting to feel better. It's about time! BTW, I'm not adding any pictures to this entry, because it would simply be too much and probably confusing, too.

You know, this is so funny I was about to message you on facebook because i hadn't heard from you or OX for... well a long time!

I am glad to hear you two are doing well (even though you are post-flu) :)

Merry Yule :)

Oh I'd love to see the photos of it. But more importantly, you guys quit smoking!!!! Congrats, please email me of the progress.

A trip to Austria sounds wonderful too!

We had our own share of visitors and a move!

And the bikes and the new lifestyle, wow oh wow!

I saw your comment on Ginnie's blog and was surprised (and glad) to see that you have woken from your deep blogger sleep....
So you were in Canada and you didn't come to see me.... now, I'm HURT!

XMichra: Great minds think alike, no? I've also made myself pretty rare on FB, but I'll be back more often now :)

ET: Photos will come. And yes, we're getting back into shape. That's good :)

Ex-Sham: Hmmm. Blogger sleep... I like that. As you can see, our schedule was very filled. Maybe next time, we'll drive down to Toronto and then, I'll be ringing your doorbell.

ESP: Thanks! As you know, we were both heavy smokers, so we're quite proud about quitting :) To be honest, sometimes I wished that the summer had not been that busy. LOL. I hope that you're enjoying your new home!

I can't tell you how fun it is to have you in the same time zone now, Sandra! And to see you the other day on Skype was a real treat for me. I'm glad you're feeling better and do hope you're gonna have a good week after being sick! Doe voorzichtig!!

Lovely to see you back! Thanks for commenting on my blog. And congratulations to your new non-smoking status! Keep it up. Do you remember when you read my short post, a long time ago, based on a picture of a heavy smoker's lungs? You asked why I had to be so cruel and put that up. I'll tell you, apart from a Pippi Longstocking post which attracts visitors looking for lesson plans on a daily basis, that post about those nasty-looking lungs is my other main target for search-engine hits. Every day people from all over the world, worried about their health, search the net for (perhaps) motivation to quit! Well done CS for quitting! ;-)

Ginnie: Isn't it great? We'll have to Skype more often for sure! As for work, it's pretty calm now until mid-January, so I shouldn't get overworked ;-)

Swenglish: I have no intention to change my status back to "smoker". And you know what? I've never found it so easy to quit. That's interesting about your visitors, though. My motivation came from a book. Hmmmm... You just gave me an idea.

I just wanted to let you know that I have loved reading your blog. I've read and re-read it during downtime at work... I loved reading about your amazing life and all the trips you've been on and the varied friends you have. I aspire to be just as versatile someday!

I hope that someday you are inspired to blog again because I love reading about your adventures. I hope you have a happy and eventful (though enjoyable!) 2011.
